Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: 08/06/2026

See Terms of Service for definitions and interpretations.

  1. Purpose and Scope: This Acceptable Use Policy sets out the content standards and behavioural rules that apply when you upload content, interact with our site, or contact other users. By using Indeparent, you agree to comply with this Policy. Breach of this Policy may result in the immediate suspension or termination of your account and the removal of your content. This policy is incorporated into our Terms of Service.

  2. Content Standards: You must not post any content that:

    1. Is unlawful: Breaches any applicable law (including defamation, harassment, and copyright laws).

    2. Identifies children: Identifies a minor by name, image, or description in any publicly visible area of the Service (e.g., reviews or comments).

    3. Describes safeguarding risks: Contains allegations of criminal activity or immediate safeguarding concerns. These must be reported to the police, not posted here.

    4. Contains severe profanity, obscenity, or vulgarity. While we operate an automated filter that uses reasonable efforts to block egregious profanity, we do not assume that these will be 100% effective. Users remain solely responsible for ensuring their language remains appropriate for a community platform.

    5. Promotes other businesses. Promotes any business or commercial enterprise by description or contact details (telephone numbers, email address, URLs, or any other method).

    6. Identifies any individual by name.

    7. Contains non-executive job titles. In many schools, particularly smaller schools, mentioning "The D.T. teacher" is sufficient to identify an individual. There is a carve-out for "executive roles" (i.e. "The Head", "The Bursar") ("Journalism Exemption" under Schedule 2, Part 5 of the DPA 2018).

    8. Constitutes 'doxxing'. Doxxing (or doxing) is the malicious act of publicly revealing someone's private or personally identifiable information—such as their real name, home address, phone number, or workplace—without their consent.

    9. Manipulates the system: Create multiple accounts to post multiple reviews for the same school or bypass our "one review per school" limit, or to post multiple comments to a blog post.

    10. Misrepresents your identity: Pose as a parent if you are a staff member, student, or agent of the school, or any other misrepresentation of your relationship with the school.

    11. Has been incentivised by a 3rd party: You must not accept payment, discounts, or benefits in exchange for a review.

    12. Is based on hearsay or gossip. The experiences and opinions expressed must be informed by the user’s own personal experience.

    13. Is intended to“Troll”, or is posted in bad faith. Content must be posted with the intent implied by the context and not specifically with the intent of causing harm or disrupting the community.

      1. Trolling is the act of deliberately posting provocative, misleading, or inflammatory content online. The primary goal is to "bait" others into emotional arguments or hostile reactions, usually for the instigator's personal amusement or to disrupt a community discussion. Content that is deemed irrelevant in the context (a review or blog comment), at our sole discretion, is not permitted.

      2. Reviews, both positive and negative, are intended to share honest and constructive feedback on a school (and not on any individuals) in order to support other users in making informed decisions.

      3. Blog comments are intended to contribute to the topic of the post by sharing experiences, opinions, or by challenging the content of the original post.

  3. Technical Misuse

    1. You must not:

      1. Scrape Data: Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to extract School Data or user reviews.

      2. Reverse Engineer: Attempt to decompile or reverse engineer the Service's software, source code, or recommendation algorithms.
