Review Guidelines

Thank you for leaving a review

Detailed reviews are the bedrock of our community.

They:

  • Help schools learn and improve.

  • Help users just like you find the perfect school for them.

Detailed reviews from users with completed profiles help our algorithms recommend schools by considering reviews based on similar user characteristics.

For example: A school might receive glowing reviews except where parents have direct experience of their SEND provision. This will help us avoid recommending this school to parents looking for a school with excellent SEND provision.

By leaving a review on Indeparent you agree to the Terms of Service.

Guidelines for great reviews

1. Post with positive intent.

Our users will love to hear detailed reasons for why your school is so special, so please make your feedback meaningful.

“It’s great,”

is not nearly as helpful as,

“The teachers are always focussed on helping every child reach their potential. The grounds and sports facilities are exceptional. The food is…”.

There will be some parents that see room for improvement. If so:

  • Keep the intent positive. Even if you’ve had a negative experience, please share it honestly but constructively and with helpful details.

  • Please also share the positive aspects of your experience.

2. Share your personal, genuine, experiences.

Stick to what you have directly experienced. Indeparent is all about these personal experiences — not the prevailing reputation of a school — so “I hear it’s great” does not add much to the community.

3. Don’t make it personal.

Focus your review on the school—not on individual staff or (especially) students.

4. Keep it clean.

Even though you are posting anonymously, write as if your name were attached.

We want parents to feel comfortable reading reviews alongside their children, so avoid:

  • Swearing

  • Racism or other discriminatory language

  • Disrespectful comments about teaching staff

Other Helpful Guidance

Here is some further guidance to help you post positively and safely.

Only your latest review for a given school counts

We will only publish your latest review for any given school. This means that it’s futile to try to “review bomb” a school!

Instead, put your time into crafting a single, detailed, review that will help our community.

Avoid potential legal risk

You are legally responsible for what you write (including claims of defamation). See What Is Defamation for more information.

Sounds scary, but it’s fairly easy to avoid legal risk if you follow these guidelines when posting a review:

  • Stick to facts you can back up (e.g. “The school failed to provide weekly reports, despite promising to”).

  • Avoid personal attacks or speculation (e.g. don’t say “The headteacher is corrupt” or “I think they’re lying” unless you have clear evidence and would be prepared to defend your claim).

  • Share your honest experience, not hearsay or gossip.

Examples

✅ Acceptable (Fair, Honest, Lawful)

  • “We felt the teaching quality varied—some teachers were excellent; others didn’t seem to know what they were doing.”

  • “The facilities looked impressive on the tour, but in practice, I thought many were poor.”

  • “My child was unhappy, and we didn’t feel the school responded adequately to our concerns.”

  • “We were disappointed with the school’s response to bullying, which we reported several times.”

  • “The fees are high, and we didn’t feel the value matched the cost.”

❌ Not Acceptable (Potentially Defamatory)

  • “The teachers are lazy and don’t care about the children.”

  • “The head lied to us during the admissions process.”

  • “This school only cares about money, not the students.”

  • “This place is a scam.”

  • “I heard from another parent that the deputy head is having an affair with a teacher.”

Golden rule: Stick to what happened to you and how you felt. Avoid inflammatory claims unless you’re prepared to prove them.

Anonymity and Legal Disclosure

Reviews on Indeparent are anonymous by default. However, if a legal claim is made, a claimant may apply to a court to compel us to disclose your identity.

While Indeparent does not voluntarily share user data, we will comply with valid legal orders if required. Where permitted by law, we will notify the user.

Please see our Terms of Service for more information.

Safeguarding and Criminal Allegations

Indeparent takes the safety of children extremely seriously.

  • Do not use this platform to report crimes or immediate safeguarding concerns. If a child is in danger, contact the police or the NSPCC immediately.

  • Zero Tolerance: We do not publish reviews containing allegations of criminal activity (such as child abuse, violence, or theft).

  • Police Reporting: If a review contains credible evidence of a risk to a child, we reserve the right to remove the content immediately and report the details to the relevant authorities (including the Police and the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead) without notifying you.
