The Independent Educational Association (IEA) is the charitable company that owns and operates the St James Schools in London and Surrey. The schools are unique for their ethos, which is based on the philosophical principles of the School of Economic Science (SES) (specifically the Advaita Vedanta tradition). This philosophical approach includes distinctive features such as the teaching of Sanskrit, the practice of "The Pause" (mindfulness/meditation) throughout the school day, and a strong emphasis on spiritual and character development alongside academic success.
