How Indeparent uses AI (AI Usage Policy)
What data AI sees
School Data: For the purpose of keeping attributes of schools up to date, including the school motto, founded year, and all other information about schools that is presented to the user.
User review data: for the purpose of summarising and discovering sentiment from collections of user reviews.
User Profile Data: For the purpose of adding context to these summaries.
It DOES NOT see any PII (Personally Identifiable Information).
3rd-party AI providers
indeparent uses 3rd party AI tools (Vertex AI from the Google Cloud Suite) to process information.
Model training
Review and profile data may be used to train bespoke models for the purpose of building a school recommendation service.
Google is not permitted to use this submitted data to train its own AI models.
How errors are handled
Regular quality checks monitor the performance of these models against their intended purpose. Any errors that are discovered are resolved on the site and the prompts are refined to prevent repeated errors.

The AI is instructed to ignore allegations of criminal behaviour or safeguarding concerns. These cannot appear in summaries even if contained in reviews.
AI anonymises content by paraphrasing and removing roles or identifying details, but absolute anonymity cannot be guaranteed in very small communities or very specific situations.
AI summaries cannot reflect the nuance of full parent experiences and are not a complete representation of all reviews left for a school.
AI summaries should be interpreted alongside other information on the school page, such as star ratings, the Indeparent Score, and individual raw reviews (where available).
AI outputs may vary over time based on improvements to our models or changes in summarisation rules.
